GRUHA AROGYA YOJANE
CONTEXT
- Burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Karnataka is rising:
- Hypertension: 26.9% men, 25% women
- Diabetes: 15.6% men, 14% women (NFHS-5)
- Lifestyle disorders are now a major public health challenge.
- Existing healthcare access is often urban-centric; rural areas lack preventive screening.
- Government intervention required due to limited private sector focus on prevention.
CONCEPT: GRUHA AROGYA YOJANE
- Launched: October 24, 2024, by CM, piloted in Kolar.
- Objective:
- Free door-to-door screening for NCDs.
- Focus on people aged 30+.
- Enable early detection, treatment, and cost reduction.
- Initial Coverage:
- 5 diseases:
- Hypertension
- Diabetes
- Oral, Breast, and Cervical Cancers
- 5 diseases:
CURRENT
- Gruha Arogya expanded
- Expanded Scope: Now covers 14 diseases, including:
- Original 5
- Diabetic foot, Diabetic retinopathy
- COPD, CKD, NAFLD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea
- Anaemia (ages 19–29)
- Mental and Neuropsychiatric Disorders
- Original 5
- Coverage: Statewide rollout from Bengaluru on June 2, 2025.
- Target Population:
- ~82.32 lakh hypertensive
- ~47.28 lakh diabetic individuals (30+ age group)
Implementation Strategy
- Key Personnel:
- ASHAs: Awareness & community mobilisation
- CHOs/PHCOs: Screening, counselling, NCD portal data entry
- Medical Officers: Diagnosis & long-term management
- Screening Site:
- Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) as focal point
- Post-diagnosis:
- Free medicines at AAMs
- Digital recordkeeping & follow-up monitoring

- Brings healthcare to doorsteps — especially in rural and semi-urban areas.
- Aims to cut down both family and government healthcare costs.
- Shifts focus from curative to preventive healthcare.
- Empowers frontline workers and promotes data-driven health governance.
