- The Greater Bengaluru Area (GBA) will be restricted to the current Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) jurisdiction.
- Notification issued by the Urban Development Department (UDD)
- The Greater Bengaluru Governance (GBG) Act, 2024 came into force the same day, introducing a new administrative framework.

Key Details from the Notification – Jurisdiction & Area
- BBMP currently spans 709 sq km.
- Although the Act allows expansion up to 1,000 sq km, the government has decided not to expand at this stage.
- Earlier speculation suggested including 200–250 sq km of nearby developed panchayats, but the notification rules this out.
Municipal Corporations Under GBG Act
- The GBG Act permits creation of up to seven corporations.
- Government sources indicate that the initial plan is to create three corporations.
- Final decision on number and boundaries pending.
Establishment of New Entity: Greater Bengaluru Authority
- The Greater Bengaluru Authority will have financial and planning powers.
- The Act mandates its establishment within 120 days.
- Until reconstitution:
- BBMP and other local authorities will continue under the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Act, 2020.
- Existing functionaries will retain powers temporarily, as per UDD notification.
